After nearly 20 years of development, China’s LNG industry has embarked on a journey from a liquefied natural gas “big country to a powerful country”. After years of development, my country has now become the world’s unique and dynamic LNG market. Data show that in 2020, my country’s LNG production will reach 13.329 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 11.4%. From January to December 2020, the top ten provinces and cities in China by LNG production were Inner Mongolia, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Sichuan, Xinjiang, Ningxia, Shandong, Chongqing, Henan, and Hubei.

As one of the world’s largest LNG importers, my country’s LNG import volume has been increasing year by year. From January to October 2021, China’s LNG import volume was 64.5 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 22.5%. In terms of value, China’s LNG imports from January to October 2021 amounted to US$30,430.7 million , a year-on-year increase of 65.4%. Up to now, the number of LNG receiving stations that have been put into operation in China is 22, including 3 PetroChina, 2 Sinopec, 4 CNOOC, 7 national pipeline networks, 1 Shenzhen Gas, a total of 5 private enterprises, LNG acceptance The capacity exceeds 90 million tons/year.

In May 2021, the General Department of the National Energy Administration issued the “Special Supervision Work Plan for the Fair Opening of Natural Gas Pipeline Networks and LNG Terminals”. The interconnection of facilities is included in the supervision content. In the current LNG terminal business plan, Sinopec will focus on the construction of Tianjin LNG Phase II and Shandong LNG Phase II in terms of LNG terminal business, and PetroChina will promote the construction of key storage and transportation facilities such as Tangshan and Jiangsu LNG terminals in an orderly manner. With the gradual commissioning of the LNG receiving station project under construction, the domestic LNG receiving capacity will further increase.
