LPG is one of the petroleum products. It is a colorless and volatile gas produced from oil and gas field exploitation, refinery and ethylene plant. It is mainly used in automobile, urban gas, nonferrous metal smelting, metal cutting and other industries.
In recent years, the global LPG production has increased rapidly. In 2011, the global LPG production reached about 250 million tons, with a year-on-year increase of 3.73%. It is expected that the global LPG production will increase to 275 million tons by 2014.
China is one of the fastest growing countries in the world’s LPG industry and LPG recovery unit. Its output increased from 13.99 million tons in 2004 to 21.81 million tons in 2011, with a compound annual growth rate of 6.55%; From January to April 2012, China’s LPG output was 7.3324 million tons. China’s LPG consumption also grew rapidly, from 211.3 million tons in 2004 to 24.19 million tons in 2011, with a compound annual growth rate of 1.95%. From January to April 2012, China’s LPG consumption was 7.55 million tons, up 5.30% year on year.
As the most mature fuel in China’s automobile alternative energy technology, LPG is expected to be replaced by natural gas in most of China’s urban civil gas in the future, and the output of LPG as a by-product of oil refining will increase with the increase of the total amount of oil refining. At that time, the LPG production capacity will be overcapacity, and the price will not rise all the way like gasoline and diesel. The application of LPG to automobiles will not only highlight the economic benefits, but also reduce the greenhouse gas emissions. Therefore, the prospect of LPG as automobile fuel is worth optimistic.
Natural gas liquids recovery and light hydrocarbon recovery will plays inportant part in our LPGand NGL industry.
