Gas Sweetening Skid Integrates Molecular Sieve Desulphurization and TEG Dehydration for Next-Generation LNG Plants
As the global liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry pushes toward higher purity specifications in 2026, the gas sweetening skid has evolved into a fully integrated pretreatment hub, combining advanced Molecular sieve desulphurization with a TEG gas dehydration unit to deliver ultra-dry, sulfur-free feed gas for downstream liquefaction.

Traditionally, amine-based systems handled bulk acid gas removal, but today’s gas sweetening skid now incorporates a Molecular sieve desulphurization layer—using synthetic zeolites with precisely controlled pore sizes—to polish the gas stream by adsorbing residual mercaptans, COS, and trace H₂S down to sub-ppm levels. Coupled with this molecular sieve bed is the TEG gas dehydration unit, which employs triethylene glycol to absorb water vapor, achieving dew-point depressions of 40–60 °C and lowering water content to less than 0.1 lb/MMscf. When arranged in series on a single gas sweetening skid, the combined Molecular sieve desulphurization and TEG dehydration sequence ensures that the treated gas meets both pipeline and LNG plant inlet requirements without the need for separate, space-consuming vessels.
Recent field data from a major Southeast Asian LNG plant show that replacing standalone units with an integrated gas sweetening skid reduced footprint by 35% and cut regeneration energy consumption by nearly 20%. Operators also benefit from shared instrumentation, automated changeover valves, and a common regeneration gas loop that optimizes thermal efficiency.
